It is a known fact that electronic components tend to emit a lot of heat when used for long durations. The same applies to computers, that are made of crucial components like CPUs, RAMs, graphics cards. Chipsets etc that tend to emit a lot of heat. This tends to raise the temperature of the computer case.

We all know that excessive heat in any electronic instrument will shorten its life. For any electrical gadget to work to its fullest potential it is important to find a way to dissipate its internal heat.  For which the commonest way out is to have smalls fans built to bring down the temperature.

How do case fans work? What are the types of case fans?

Best PC case fans are the ones that help circulate clean air and remove hot air or heat emitted by the electrical components. These fans play a crucial role in helping bring down the internal temperature in a computer.

Case fans are of three main types that are usually used are as follows:

Device fans: These are placed on top of components that produce maximum heat so that most of the heat is pulled out of the system.

Intake fans: this type of fan functions by pulling in the cool and fresh air into the computer. Most commonly there are filters installed on top of these fans so that it does not bring in dust particles along with cool air.

Exhaust fans: these help by pulling out air that is heated within the computer. It basically brings out the heat that is emitted by the devices and invariably brings down the temperature inside the computer.

Device fans were used as a part of older technology. But newer computers make use of case fans that are a combination of intake fans as well as exhaust fans.

The commonest variant is where a high power intake fan and low powered exhaust fans are installed so that there is a positive flow of air inside the computer.
